This is a book I designed to English Heritage Academic Publications. It’s about 350 pages explaining the discoveries of excavations all along Hadrian’s Wall. EH are obliged to make public their findings and this is how they do it. From the beginning of works to getting in materials for publication can be 10s of years but I’ve got to do it quick! No problem once I get my head stuck into a job like this I just go at it like a Rottweiler until it’s done, then lie down for a bit! This one was put together in Quark after I have assessed all the images (100s of them) in Photoshop for reproduction suitability.

This is another photo book for English Heritage retail. Mr SWA Newton took a ton of pictures as the Great Central Railway was being built. You don’t need to be a railway nerd to appreciate the splendid photos in this book, It captures the building of the track and rural life around it all. It shows a time lost and a way of doing things that’s gone forever. I had great fun sorting thru all the pictures and laying it out in Quark.

This is another book for English Heritage retail. Stuffed full of great images from the NMRC archive it’s a wonderful historic document in itself. I used the spread above as it shows people fully clothed in the sea, even the bikini clad lady is wearing enough material to make 10 bikinis nowadays, brilliant! My favourite chapter is on Piers, so many have gone now (they are prone to burn down as the fire brigade can’t get water to the far end which is usually the bit alight) you only really see such a frontage and pier in good condition now in a very few places, like Eastbourne.

One of several landscape photobooks I designed for English Heritage retail. It is A4 landscape and full of images taken from the NMRC archive and covers the history of Stonehenge since the advent of photography. Very interesting content shows everything from the earliest faked image of the stones to a naked american tourist wielding a flash light for long exposure fun. There’s also a load of hippies and druids! Nice job and Julian Richards was a pleasure to work with. Put together in Quark.
